  • 3. The browning is caused by a natural enzyme called polyphenol oxidase. This breaks down the starches in the banana making it easier to digest.
  • 4. This works well for those who are trying to lose weight because the stomach has an easier job of processing the fruit.
  • 5. Many believe that the dark spots also contain TNF (Tumour Necrosis Factor.) This has been effective at killing cancer cells in mice, but more research is required for humans.
  • 6. These ripe bananas also contain more antioxidants and more natural sugars.
  • 7. There is one exception to this. If you suffer from diabetes, it’s better for you to eat green or lightly yellowed bananas, because these contain fewer sugars from carbohydrates than brown bananas.
